WHY IS COLLAGEN IMPORTANT?

The benefits of supplementing your diet with collagen and other skin supporting ingredients such as Vitamin C and antioxidants can greatly assist with warding off the visible signs of ageing and support long term skin health.

Collagen also plays an essential role in boosting the health of our gut, hair, nails and bones. The makeup of your gut bacteria (microbiome) is responsible for your mood (serotonin), energy, and ability to deal with stress. Your gut lining is made up of around 85% collagen. The inclusion of prebiotic Inulin in the form of Jerusalem artichoke, alongside marine collagen and soothing Aloe vera may support and aid your gut microbiome.

SKIN BENEFITS

The Mukti Bioactive Collagen Booster is a natural beauty formulation that supports youthful radiance. The two main layers that make up the skin are the epidermis and the dermis. The dermis contains fibroblasts including type I and type III collagen, which are the cells that produce collagen and elastin, the two essential proteins that support your skin.

For the skin to function normally, the structure of the dermis needs to be maintained. Unfortunately, as we get older, aged fibroblasts produce less collagen, resulting in the visible signs of ageing. Marine collagen is small enough to be absorbed on a cellular level to replace, replenish and rejuvenate your collagen production by stimulating the fibroblasts found in the connective tissue of your skin. Type I collagen is the most abundant protein in the body. It’s literally the scaffolding that holds you together and is found in your skin, hair, nails, gut lining, organs, muscles, bones and ligaments. Aside from water, it’s the most important and abundant substance in your body.

WHAT OTHER FUNCTIONS DOES COLLAGEN HAVE?

SKIN HEALTH - Collagen makes up around 75% of your skin. Including a collagen supplement can help strengthen skin, improve hydration, retain moisture, aid in skin elasticity, smooth fine lines, tighten and even out skin tone. Collagen also helps to improve skin overall smoothness and plumping of the skin. Due to its beneficial effects on the dermal cellular matrix, it can even help to decrease cellulite. It truly is a skin elixir.

HAIR HEALTH - Collagen peptides can adsorb onto keratin structures like skin and hair. They form a protective layer and restore collagen that’s found in the hair follicle stimulating hair growth, preventing damage and moisture loss and assisting you in achieving glossy, healthy locks. It may even improve your eyelashes.

NAIL HEALTH - Nail growth is stimulated. By taking collagen daily, nails become healthier and stronger preventing breaking, flaking and splitting.

GUT HEALTH - The makeup of your gut bacteria (microbiome) is responsible for your mood (serotonin), energy, and ability to deal with stress. Your gut lining is made up of around 85% collagen. The amino acids in collagen help seal holes in your gut (leaky gut) giving you more energy. The inclusion of prebiotic Inulin in the form of Jerusalem artichoke, alongside marine collagen and soothing Aloe vera may support and aid your gut microbiome. Prebiotics are directly responsible for stimulating the growth of beneficial bacteria that make up your gut microflora. Prebiotic compounds function as food for the gut and help balance the harmful bacteria and toxins living in the digestive tract.

BONE HEALTH - Your bone mass is made up of 95% collagen. As you age the balance between bone reabsorption and formation is compromised, leading to a loss of bone tissue and degeneration. Studies show that loss of collagen is a contributing factor to osteoporosis. Ingesting marine collagen has been shown to stimulate osteoblast formation to help build and restore bone density.

I THOUGHT MUKTI WAS A VEGAN BRAND?

Mukti is passionate about not testing on animals and avoiding animal cruelty. Mukti has always focused on naturally sourced ingredients to create skincare, not exploiting any living creature in the process.

Their stance has always been and will always be the same in regards to animal cruelty. They proudly craft the most effective vegan skincare with NO compromise on results using only organic, natural sources, harnessing the powers of local native flora and botanicals.

When it came to creating a collagen product, Mukti researched extensively for many years investigating and testing their options for the most effective, cruelty free, sustainably derived source. Collagen that replenishes and replaces lost collagen in humans are derived from four sources: bovine (cows), porcine (pigs), poultry (chicken) and marine (fish) collagen.

Mukti's marine collagen is made from fish skin and scales and contains primarily Type I collagen. Type I collagen is 85% of our skin collagen and the building blocks of the skin’s structure. Most other animal sourced collagens are Type II, which can be beneficial for joints, but this doesn’t help your skin. Likewise, plant ingredients can help support your collagen but they're unable to replenish lost collagen supplies.

WHY MARINE COLLAGEN?

Marine collagen has superior bioavailability because of its small particle size and low molecular weight. It easily passes through the intestinal wall into the bloodstream providing healing, repair and nourishment. Studies show that marine collagen is absorbed 1.5 times more efficiently than other types of collagen, making it a very effective nutraceutical. Mukti not only chose this type of collagen for its benefits, but also because it was the kindest, safest source possible.

  • Odourless + Easily Absorbed
  • 100% Natural – no additives or preservatives
  • Highest Absorption Rate
  • Chemical + Heavy Metal Free
  • GMO + Antibiotic Free
  • Sustainable + Eco-friendly.

WHERE IS THE COLLAGEN SOURCED?

Marine collagen is extracted from the scales of sustainably farmed Tilapia fish. This fish species is so abundantly farmed (with skin discarded), that sourcing collagen from aqua cultured tilapia is the most environmentally friendly option.

It is one of the purest and highest bioavailable forms of marine collagen that has evidenced based, clinically proven results on the skin. Just 2.5g per day is all that is required to replenish and replace lost collagen.

Tilapia skin is the best in promoting wound healing and skin regeneration. Ingestion of this type of collagen encourages the growth of fibroblasts and increases the expression of genes involved in wound healing. Tilapia also has the highest concentrations of protein in their scales.

Sustainably sourced means the fish are treated in ways that consider the long-term vitality of the species and the well-being of the oceans, as well as the livelihoods of fisheries-dependent communities.

THIS PRODUCT IS NOT SUITABLE FOR VEGANS OR THOSE WITH FISH ALLERGIES.

HOW IS THE COLLAGEN EXTRACTED?

Marine collagen is extracted through a hydrolysis process using pure physical methods, without any trace of chemical residue. During the manufacturing process, allergens are removed through a controlled procedure that includes sterilisation and pasteurisation, filtration, UF, and demineralisation.

It is manufactured in certified facilities and is tested for heavy metals including mercury, pesticides and microbiological contaminants to ensure its purity and safety.

WHAT OTHER SKIN SUPPORTING INGREDIENTS DOES THE BIOACTIVE COLLAGEN BOOSTER CONTAIN?

ANTIOXIDANTS

Antioxidants play a role in the body’s cell protection system. Eating a diet rich in antioxidants supports your overall health by neutralizing free radicals. Free radicals are harmful by-products produced by the body during metabolism and by exposure to environmental pollution.

The health benefits of collagen are enhanced and amplified by the inclusion of Mukti's Super ORAC Antioxidant Blend, a delicious proprietary blend of many of the world’s most phytonutrient-rich and well-known berries including Acai, Acerola, Maqui, Mangosteen and Schisandra. Bursting with a potent variety of vitamins, minerals, carotenes, protein and omega-3 fatty acids, their antioxidant blend is a super-concentrated whole food. Polyphenol compounds such as xanthones, combined with the antioxidant resveratrol and flavonoids such as anthocyanins, provide superior antioxidant support. Active constituents include:

  • ACAI - A rich source of antioxidant compounds, particularly anthocyanins and omega-3 fatty acids.
  • ACEROLA - One of the richest sources of vitamin C. Acerola also contains a variety of mineral salts that can help stressed and tired skin to be remineralised.
  • AMLA - Supports a healthy heart, promotes good blood circulation, aids cell regeneration, digestion and improves mental functions.
  • CRANBERRY - An abundant source of a unique subclass of flavonoids called proanthocyanidins.
  • GOJI BERRY - Contains a complete spectrum of antioxidant carotenoids, including beta-carotene and zeaxanthin.
  • JABOTICABA - A deliciously sweet, deep purple fruit that is rich in the unique antioxidant compound, jaboticabin.
  • MANGOSTEEN - Particularly rich in a class of very potent antioxidants called xanthones.
  • MAQUI BERRY - Contains astonishing levels of antioxidant compounds. Maqui has the highest ORAC level of any known berry.
  • POMEGRANATE - Contains high levels of ellagic acid, tannins and anthocyanins, which are potent antioxidants.
  • STRAWBERRIES - Bursting with a unique synergistic combination of antioxidant phytonutrients including anthocyanins, ellagitannins, flavonols, terpenoids, resveratrol and phenolic acids.
  • SCHISANDRA BERRY - A renowned beautifying elixir used in traditional Chinese medicine it is valued for its antioxidant properties. It contains essential oils, numerous acids, lignans, phytosterols, vitamin C and vitamin E.

VITAMIN C

Vitamin C has a distinct role in collagen synthesis. It makes all 18 types of collagen found in the body, it combines with two amino acids, lysine and proline, to form the first pre-curser of collagen, known as ‘procollagen’. As an antioxidant, it also protects existing collagen from damage. Without vitamin C, our body is slower in healing wounds and producing collagen. Vitamin C is not naturally synthesised by the body so it must be obtained through our diet. It’s vitally important in the role of neutralising free radicals and is essential for maintaining younger, vibrant skin. As well as assisting the amino acids lysine and proline, to convert to collagen. The richest sources include fruits and berries found in Mukti's super ORAC antioxidant blend.

PREBIOTICS – JERUSALEM ARTICHOKE

Jerusalem artichoke powder standardised to 90% inulin is a soluble fiber that is beneficial to produce intestinal tract flora. Inulin found in Jerusalem artichoke root may recover gastrointestinal strength and calcium assimilation as well as being advantageous to the influence of lipid metabolism, which declines in the risk of many health challenges.Prebiotics help feed and keep beneficial bacteria healthy since they are non-digestible food fibres that make their way through our digestive system and help good bacteria grow and flourish while discouraging the growth of other harmful organisms.

HYALURONIC ACID

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a known substance that improves skin hydration. HA is shown to have a durable effect to retain moisture in the skin from inside the body. In a month-long study, surveyed individuals who added hyaluronic acid to their diet showed significant reductions in skin dryness, wrinkles, and improvements in skin moisture and fullness.

ALOE VERA

Aloe vera assists in soothing and calming gut-related issues and digestion by alkalising stomach acids. Aloe vera is a rich source of antioxidants and vitamins that may help protect your skin. The important compounds have been shown to neutralise the effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation, repair your skin from existing UV damage, and help prevent fine lines and wrinkles.

RESVERATROL

Resveratrol is a natural polyphenol and antioxidant that’s found in the skin of grapes and has exhibited a range of unique age-defying properties. It acts as a free radical scavenger. Studies have shown an increase in cell proliferation on human fibroblasts and inhibition of collagenase activity.

ASTAXANTHIN

Astaxanthin is a superior cell-protecting carotenoid. Studies show that astaxanthin is up to 1000 times more effective than vitamin C, 500 times more effective than vitamin E and 10 times more effective than beta-carotene. It has also been found to enhance the antioxidant actions of vitamin E and C due to possible synergistic effects. Its UV-protective properties have been studied and tested, suggesting that skin sagging and wrinkling can be prevented or minimised by oral administration.

SILICA

Gives your skin a healthy glow by increasing the transportation of oxygen and nutrients to the skin. It assists with skin regeneration by creating a bond between protein molecules allowing the skin to retain water required for cell repair and renewal. It helps rebuild collagen and keeps the hair, skin, teeth and nails robust.

KAKADU PLUM EXTRACT

One of the highest available plant sources of vitamin C, Kakadu plum is rich in the phenolic compound, ellagic acid (EA), an antioxidant that helps to guard against skin ageing by promoting the formation of collagen and elastin, two essential proteins that maintain youthful skin.

DAVIDSON PLUM EXTRACT

An antioxidant powerhouse, Davidson plum has a deep, dark-purple fruit with blood-red flesh. It provides an excellent source of potassium, vitamin E and zinc, which help promote glowing, youthful looking skin.

BEETROOT EXTRACT

Beetroots contain antioxidant properties and may assist with detoxification. Their deep red-purple colour is due to the phytonutrient, betalain. Beetroots are a good source of bioflavonoids, manganese, potassium, vitamin C, magnesium, phosphorus and dietary fibers, both soluble and insoluble.

STEVIOL GLYCOSIDES

Steviol glycosides are the main active compounds found in leaves that give Stevia its natural sweetness, 250 to 300 times sweeter than table sugar. Glycosides have a negligible effect on blood sugar levels making it a great alternative sweetener. Stevia also contains a good concentration of phytochemicals like quercetin, kaempferol, apigenin, and chlorogenic acid, which may contribute to healthy weight management and may help improve oral health, digestion and help maintain healthy hair and scalp.

AT WHAT AGE SHOULD YOU START TAKING COLLAGEN?

After you turn 25, collagen begins to deplete by 1.5% per year, and by the age of 45, our bodies have lost up to 30% of total collagen supply. By taking collagen daily, you can help slow down the ageing process by replacing lost collagen. It also activates collagen production by stimulating the fibroblasts on a cellular level and by inhibiting the production of collagenase, the enzyme that breaks down collagen.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TAKE COLLAGEN?

For the maintenance of skin, hair and nails, it is recommended to take 2.5g of collagen per day. This is the equivalent of one serving size (one scoop or 2 level teaspoons) of the Mukti Bioactive Collagen Booster (6.7g).

To maximise results, you can increase the dosage to twice per day.

HOW LONG BEFORE I SEE RESULTS?

Results are individual. The time frame may vary due to the level of ageing and condition of skin, hair and nails. Scientific research on daily collagen intake is that changes can be seen and felt as soon as four weeks onwards after daily supplementation. Increasing to 2-3 serves a day may accelerate the results.

CAN I TAKE IF I AM PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING?

Although it is a 100% natural protein and is not contraindicated, we advise that you get consent from your obstetrician.

Taking collagen during breastfeeding has shown an improvement in skin, hair and nail health after pregnancy by providing the body with essential nutrients.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I STOP TAKING MARINE COLLAGEN?

Like any supplement that you take, your skin, hair and nail condition will eventually revert to their previous state. The time frame in which this happens can differ from person to person due to various intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Current research has indicated that results remained for up to four weeks and then gradually decline.

WILL BIOACTIVE COLLAGEN HELP WITH SKIN CONDITIONS AND CONCERNS?

Skin conditions can deplete the skin of key nutrients and interfere with collagen formation. The increase in collagen helps to repair and rebuild the damaged tissue and restore the skin’s firmness and elasticity. Research has shown that taking collagen daily for two months resulted in a 91% increase in skin hydration and resilience. This has in some cases seen improvements in a variety of skin conditions.

WILL IT HELP WITH CELLULITE?

Cellulite is very normal, with 80-98% of all women having it. Cellulite is mainly caused by disturbances to the dermal matrix in combination with excess subcutaneous fat and fluid. Collagen has been found to have beneficial re-densifying effects on the extracellular matrix of the skin and can help to decrease cellulite.

WILL IT HELP WITH STRETCH MARKS?

Stretch marks are a result of a lack of collagen in the dermis combined with stretching of the skin. The less collagen there is in your skin, the more likely you are to develop stretch marks. Including marine collagen in your diet may help to prevent and reduce the appearance of stretch marks and improve the overall quality of your skin.

WHAT DOES THE PRODUCT TASTE LIKE?

This Bioactive Marine Collagen is fortified with age defying actives and antioxidants. The natural SUPER ORAC blend gives the product a delicious and refreshing berry taste. You can dissolve into water, juice or blend in a smoothie.

ISN'T THERE COLLAGEN IN MY FACE PRODUCTS THAT WILL REDUCE MY WRINKLES?

The dermis of the skin cannot be penetrated by collagen molecules found in skin products as they're too large to be absorbed. The only way to replenish lost collagen is through oral supplementation of a specific type of collagen.

WHEN DO TAKE COLLAGEN SUPPLEMENT?

You can take the collagen supplement if you are wanting a boost of type 3 collagen and antioxidants in your diet. The ideal time to use a collagen supplement is first thing in your morning, to further aid the healing and sealing of your gut lining. However anytime throughout the day is appropriate.
